Story Notes

Guard Tales are stories about characters and events set within the Guard’s world, but not necessarily featuring The Guard. This month’s story features District Superintendent Ferriby, the head of the Railway Police for North Yorktonshire. Can Ferriby crack the case of the missing Award? This issue has it all, rampant football fans, a thin blue line, a fight…and a disguise?!

Ferriby is a fighter, a man who isn’t afraid to throw himself into the never ending piles of paper and files of administration. He is in short, an administrative officer (and an effective one at that), less a man of action. He has a high opinion of himself which is not shared by the rank and file. And yet somehow he always seems to come up trumps.

The names Ferriby, Wressle and Howsham (used in the story A Study in Concentration), are all towns that have railway stations on the line between York and Hull, England.

Set construction was minimal for this story, with only the rubbish area to be constructed. Other sets used in this story were already constructed sets had been used in previous stories.
